Base ball being a favourite pastime for the Americans is famous around the country, the game has some interesting methods of playing. Still some may not clearly know who invented the Baseball. The history of baseball date backs to the 1839 to the times of the civil war.
The Civil war hero:
Every once in a while people might have heard of the name of a young man named Abner Doubleday. He is the inventor of the famous past time of Americans and he did it at Cooperstown, New York, during summer 1839. While he became a civil war hero, baseball became the nation’s beloved pastime. This story was not only untrue; Doubleday was still at west point in 1839 and never claimed anything with baseball.
The National Baseball Hall of fame:
In 1907, a special commission created by the sporting goods magnate and former major league player A.J. Spalding used flimsy evidence namely the claim of a mining engineer Abner Graves to come with the Doubleday origin story as they were going to set up the national Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in the village.
The Complicated Story:
As it turns out the invention of the baseball is a complicated story than the Doubleday legend, references date back to the 18th century were baseball was derived from two direct English games its early ancestors. They were the rounders a game for the children and the Cricket bought up in England.
Time of the American Revolution:
By the time of the American Revolution variations of this game was played throughout school yards and college campus across the country. The industrial cities made these even popular were men sought to work in the mid-19th century.
In 1845, a group of New York City men founded the New York Knickerbocker baseball club, among them there was a volunteer firefighter and a bank clerk Alexander Joy Cartwright. They would set up a new set of rules that would form the basis of modern baseball. He created the call for a diamond shaped field and also abolished the practice of tagging runners throwing balls
It was then the game started to move faster and grow bigger, with Cartwright’s new rules, it differentiated the game from old traditional games and made the game go official in 1846 when Knickerbocker played their 1st official match against a team of cricket players starting a new tradition in America.
